Arthroscopic SurgeryDr. Harakas specializes in arthroscopic procedures of the ankle, knee, hip, wrist, elbow, and shoulder. Arthroscopy—which means “to look within a joint”—is a surgical procedure allowing orthopedic surgeons to insert a camera through a small incision to view, diagnose and treat problems inside a joint. According to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, arthroscopy was initially used as a diagnostic tool for planning a standard open surgery, but now, thanks to the development of better instruments and surgical techniques, many orthopedic conditions can be treated arthroscopically.
